Accreditation
The Bachelor of Divinity with Honours of the Sia'atoutai Theological College carries the accreditation of the South Pacific Association of Theological Schools (SPATS). Review of the accreditation of this qualification will took place in 2003.
Entrance Requirements
Entrance to the Bachelor of Divinity with Honours programme shall be exclusively for those students who, at the end of their third year, have satisfied all the courses of the Bachelor of Divinity programme, with an overall grade point average of at least 3.5 (75%, B+). The candidate shall in the fourth year complete necessary research and write up a thesis. Entrance to this programme shall be opened only to those who have already enrolled at Sia'atoutai Theological College.
Candidates for admission shall provide references of good character and motivation. They must prove themselves competent in the use of English and satisfy one of the following conditions:
- Hold a Degree or Diploma from a recognized tertiary institution. Or
-
Hold the Sia'atoutai Diploma in Theology or equivalent award from an institution accredited by SPATS or equivalent body. Or
- Have qualifications judged by the Board of Studies to be of equivalent to one of the above.
Academic Requirements
To qualify for the award of the bachelor of Divinity with Honours of Sia'atoutai Theological College, the student must fulfill all requirements, as follows:
-Tenure
Candidates who are qualified for the BD Honours programme shall be admitted provisionally for six (6) months. The purpose of the provisional admission is to ensure that the candidate continues to perform according to standard, and also capable of doing a thesis. Unsatisfactory performance may result in relegating such student to do the research project in the Bachelor of Divinity programme. If it happens that the candidate cannot complete the programme within the normal four years, he/she should complete the course within seven (7) consecutive years, beginning from the time of admission.
-Thesis
Students are expected to undertake a research work in producing a thesis (equal to 5 courses). The length of the thesis shall be between 80 to 100 pages (twice the size of a research project), and it must demonstrate originality and a good amount of research.
It is assumed that all candidates are being prepared well for research in the previous two years of study. No candidate is allowed to conduct research unless a statement of research intent and a full thesis proposal are both submitted and approved. A grade of S in Study Skills should be obtained by all candidates before allowing them to pursue a further research work.
-Coursework
All qualified candidates are expected to complete all course works in their fourth year, together with the thesis.
