Accreditation
The Bachelor of Divinity of Sia'atoutai Theological College carries the accreditation of the South Pacific Association of Theological Schools (SPATS). Review of accreditation for this qualification took place in 2003.
Entrance Requirements
Candidates for admission shall provide references of good character and motivation. They must prove themselves competent in the use of English and satisfy one of the following conditions:
- Hold a Degree or Diploma from a recognized tertiary institution. Or
-
Have passed the Sia’atoutai Diploma in Theology (with all courses at 55% or more) or equivalent award from an institution accredited by SPATS or equivalent body. Or
- Have qualifications judged by the Board of Studies to be equivalent to one of the above.
Academic Requirements
To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Divinity from the Sia'atoutai Theological College, students must fulfill all the following requirements:
-Tenure
Students are expected to complete at least four (4) consecutive years of boarding full-time at Sia'atoutai Theological College, and they must comply with the regulations of the College. All works are to be completed within five (5) consecutive years of registration for the Bachelor of Divinity Programme. In special circumstances, the candidate, upon application and by the approval of the Faculty meeting, may be allowed to extend his/her studies to a maximum of seven (7) consecutive years.
-Research Project
Each student shall in the second semester of the third year complete a full research proposal (see model proposal, Appendix D) and submit for approval before the end of the academic year. The purpose of this requirement is to allow students enough time to do research during the Christmas holidays. During the fourth year, all research project writers are required to submit two (2) progress reports, signed by the supervisor and Head of Department. Unsatisfactory works may result in termination of studies or allowed an extension of only one year. Deadline for all projects is the 30th of August of candidates' final year.
-Courses
All candidates must pass all the required and elective courses with a grade of at least 55%, satisfactorily complete and present a research project (equivalent of 3 courses) and satisfactorily complete all practical placements. There will normally be 43 courses (35 required + 8 electives) plus the major research project. The assessment for all the courses shall be determined by their respective lecturers.
-Statement of Failure in Courses
When a student has failed a course, to as low as 40%, the lecturer will make a judgment as to whether the overall performance of the student qualifies him/her for a remedial work or not. A remedial work will cover two-third of the content of the whole course. If the student passes the examination, he/she will not be allowed to have more than the passing mark, which is 55%. If the overall performance of the student does not qualify him or her for a remedial work, or if he/she fails the remedial work, he/she will be required to re-sit the whole course in the subsequent year.
