Entrance Requirements
Candidates for admission shall provide references of good character and motivation. There is no academic requirement for entry into this programme of study. However, all applicants should demonstrate potential to benefit from the opportunity to study at the Sia-'a-toutai Theological College.
Academic Requirements
To qualify for the award of the Certificate in Theology and Pastoral Ministry from the Sia-'a-toutai Theological College, the student must fulfill all requirements, as follows:
-Tenure
Every candidate must complete at least three (3) years of full-time study at the Sia-'a-toutai Theological College and comply with the discipline of the College. He or she must also complete all works within five (5) years of first registering for the Certificate in Theology and Pastoral Ministry Programme. In special circumstances, the candidate, upon application and by the approval of the Faculty meeting, may be allowed to extend his or her studies to a maximum of six (6) years.
-Courses
There are normally 29 required courses plus 6 electives in this program of study. Every student has to pass all these 34 courses in order to achieve his or her certificate.
Failure in a Course
Where students fail a course, staff will make a judgment as to whether the work of the student qualifies them for a remedial work or not. A remedial work will cover the content of the whole course. If the student passes the remedial work, a mark of between 50% and 59% will be recorded for his or her course. If the work of the student does not qualify him or her for a remedial work, or if he or she fails the remedial work, he or she will be required to re-sit the whole course in the subsequent year.
Fulfillment of All Academic Requirements
In order to be awarded with the Certificate in Theology and Pastoral Ministry, students must fulfill all academic requirements. Given that the graduation for this programme is normally at the end of November, it can happen that students who fail a course are not given adequate opportunity to upgrade this failure. In that case, students related above will abide with the policy of 5-years term to complete their failed courses. |
