The Diploma in Theology is a foundational programme of theological study conducted mainly in English. It aims basically to prepare students for service in areas of Christian ministry. It also aims to facilitate students with foundational knowledge and skills for further theological studies. Students who have done well in the Certificate in Theology and Pastoral Ministry with Honours can continue their studies by enrolling in this programme.
Accreditation
The Diploma in Theology of Sia'atoutai Theological College carries the accreditation of the South Pacific Association of Theological Schools (SPATS). Review of the accreditation of this qualification will take place in 2006.
Entrance Requirements
Candidates for admission shall provide references of good character and motivation. They must prove themselves competent in the use of English and satisfy one of the following conditions:
- Have passed the Pacific Senior Secondary Certificate (Form 6) or equivalent qualification from any institution overseas. Or
- Have passed the Sia?atoutai Certificate in Theology and Pastoral Ministry with Honours or equivalent award from an institution accredited by SPATS or equivalent body, with an overall grade point average of 70%. Or
- Have qualifications judged by the Board of Studies to be equivalent to one of the above.
Academic Requirements
To qualify for the award of the Certificate in Theology and Pastoral Ministry with Honours from the Sia'atoutai Theological College, the student must fulfill all requirements, as follows:
-Tenure
Complete at least two (2) years of full-time attendance at Sia'atoutai Theological College and comply with the discipline of the College. Complete all work within (4) years of first registering for the Diploma in Theology Programme. In special circumstances, the candidate, upon application and by the approval of the Faculty, may be allowed to extend his or her studies to a maximum of five (5) years.
-Courses
Pass all the required courses with a grade of at least 50% and satisfactorily complete all practical placements. There will normally be 24 required courses in this program of study.
-Failure in a Course
Where students fail a course, staff will make a judgment as to whether the work of the student qualifies them for a remedial work or not. A remedial work will cover the content of the whole course. If the student passes, a mark of between 50% and 59% will be recorded for them for that course. If the work of the student does not qualify them for a remedial work, or if they fail the remedial work, they will be required to re-sit the whole course in a subsequent year. |
